Gendering Algorithms is an interdisciplinary pilot project funded by a seed grant from the Global Transformations and Governance Challenges Initiative at Leiden University, aiming to explore the functioning, effects and governance policies of AI-based gender classification systems.

Collaboration to improve algorithms

After a personal experience, lecturers from the Faculty of Law and Computer Science at Leiden University decided to join forces. Eduard Fosch-Villaronga and Tessa Verhoef are making plans in the university's robot lab to improve the use of many websites and apps to determine the gender of their users.
